SKIDDLE FESTIVAL BUSES (June 22nd)

Public transport has changed, and is by far one of the best ways to arrive at The Wickerman Festival - the shuttle bus drop off point is right by the main entrance into the campsite - so not far to walk!

It is also a lot better for the environment, helps reduce congestion at the festival and is a lot cheaper than you might think! With a shuttle bus direct from the nearest railway station (Dumfries) to The Wickerman Festival you can find your way with a hop, skip and a jump right from your house to your tent.

Dumfries railway station is just a short connection from Carlisle, which is on the West Coast Mainline, with excellent connections from the North and South of the country, you could be at The Wickerman Festival in no time at all!

Please find some information with regards to shuttle bus times, and suggestions of journeys and costs from some popular destinations to help plan your journey.

Shuttle buses are £10 for an adult and £5 for a child aged 12 and under.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This is for a return ticket. It is highly reccomended that tickets are purchased in advance as buses have filled up very quickly in previous years and we do not want to leave anyone at the station! Further buses may be added on demand.

West Sound Live Picks Wickerman Winners (June 17th)

Sunday 7th June saw the annual “West Sound Live” musical clash take place at the new Dumfries & Galloway College campus.

Six short-listed acts went toe to toe in a closely run competition to win a number of prizes including much sought after Wickerman Festival stage slots.

Dumfries based The Common Empire was clearly the people’s choice and this was backed up by the judge’s decision to award them first place in the plugged category. First prize earns them a Main Stage opening slot at Dundrennan’s most famous rock festival on the 24th July.

Wickerman Festival spokesperson Sid Ambrose said “The Common Empire should really be famous they are fun, lively and professional and a credit to the Dumfries music scene.”

In the un-plugged section which guaranteed the winner a Wickerman Acoustic Stage slot, Created From Silence featuring multi-talented Will Marshall from Ringford was again a clear winner.

Both category winners also received the superb prize of £200 vouchers from John Douglas Music. John Douglas who helped judge the event said that “There could have been several winners on the day and it was a close run competition.”

Event organiser Bruce McKenzie from West Sound Radio echoed the sentiments of the judging panel by saying “Once again we were totally impressed by the quality of all entrants to West Sound. I think the sheer diversity of the final from solo acoustic to good old fashioned rock showed why we had such a tricky job short-listing over forty acts down to the final six.”

PHOTO ID / PROOD OF AGE REQUIRED (June 9th)

Everyone under the age of 21 (and those blessed with looking younger than their years) must bring photo ID with them to the site. The 4 forms of photographic ID which will be accepted are: CitizenCard, Passport, Photo Driving License or Young Scot Card. These are the only official proof of age documents that we will accept.

Photo ID/Proof of age will need to be produced to all gate and ticket staff, bar staff and security upon request. With regards to children 12 years and under, if we are in any doubt over the age and you cannot produce photo ID you will be charged the full adult price and issued an under 18 wristband. Likewise, should you claim to be 18 or over but cannot produce photo ID to prove it you will be issued an under 18 wristband.

If you have been lucky enough to purchase one of the new concession tickets for 13 – 15 year olds available exclusively online until 30th June, you will need photo ID to prove that your ticket has been purchased correctly. If you cannot produce photo ID you will be charged for the remainder of a full adult ticket.

The ages shown on the tickets refer to the age of the child/concession on the day of the festival (not the age at time of purchase).

We have teamed up with the CitizenCard to offer half price cards to Wickerman ticket holders. At £6 these cards don't have an expiry so can be used each year (and for other events). http://www.citizencard.com/wickerman.php

Under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the duration of the event.

STOLEN TICKETS (June 8th)

At a battle of the bands event held on Sunday 7th June in Dumfries a number of Wickerman Festival tickets were stolen. The incident has been reported to the police and anyone with any information should call Dumfries & Galloway Constabulary on 0845 600 5701.

The stolen ticket types and numbers are as follows:

Adult Weekend 1776 - 1850

Weekend Child 851 - 875

Saturday Adult 501 - 525

All 2009 Wickerman tickets are barcoded and following the theft these tickets have been cancelled from our system. If a ticket is handed over to a member of staff it will be flagged up as stolen and the ticket holder will be referred to the police.  Anyone found in possession of a stolen ticket will be removed from the site and no refunds will be offered.

Please note that you should only ever buy tickets from genuine outlets which you can find listed on our 'Buy Your Tickets' page'.  We would strongly advise against buying tickets from unofficial ticket outlets or website auctions as there is a chance that the tickets could be stolen or fake...either way these tickets will not allow you to gain entry to the festival and you will end up out of pocket and disappointed.

SOLUS FINAL FOUR REVEALED (June 5th)

After a lenghty wait of finding out who would be filling the last four slots in The Solus Tent (for new emerging Scottish artists), the winners can finally now be revealed: Healthy Minds Collapse, Yahweh, Washington Irving, and A Band Called Quinn.  The final 4 were chosen in association with Glasgow venue The Box.  Solus promoter Chay Woodman said ‘I’m really picky because Solus is all about new Scottish music, but its also all about how that reflects on what the Wickerman Festival is all about.  The standard was seriously high and there were plenty of entries to get through, so no easy choices were made.  I’d like to thank all the bands that got in touch, as well as Stevie McColm and The Box crew for working with me on the last 4.  It’s going to be a great summer’.

Samaritans Festival Branch Return To The Wickerman (April 16th)

Festival Branch of Samaritans has been going to festivals for over 35 years now, and will be at Wickerman once again this year offering 24 hour emotional support to anyone who is in crisis. Previous years they have spoken to many upset, depressed or even suicidal people, and are fully expecting the same this year.

Callers can discuss anything that's getting them down, no matter how serious or how trivial and the conversation is completely confidential.

Whether people feel suicidal or not they are given the opportunity to talk through whatever is on their mind with a non-judgemental volunteer who is trained to listen. Samaritans will respect your decisions and do not impose their own views. www.festivalsamaritans.org

Wickery Waste (April 16th)

An estimated 44 tonnes of rubbish will be gathered from the 2009 Wickerman Festival. Wrappers, packets, tins, cans and plastic bottles will be the main culprit with a few exotic materials thrown in. Rather than simply drop the flotsam and jetsam into the nearest council midden the Wickerman will transport it to the Ecodeco plant near Dumfries.

This state of the art waste treatment plant will shred, dry sieve and magnetically sort out mixed refuse turning it into fuel pellets, soil conditioner and recycled metals.

The 44 tonnes equates to something like 2.5kg of waste for each wicker person which we are told stacks up well against other festival statistics.

However, if everybody could recycle the bulk of their packaging at home either

before or after the festival then we would be left with a site which would be even cleaner and greener than normal.

Wicker Picker Applications Available Now (April 13th)

If you want to attend the festival and fancy working for your ticket, why not consider working as a Wicker Picker. Applications are available to download here.

Additions To The Scooter Tent Line Up (April 2nd)

Goldblade, Anti Product, No. 1 Station, Sharks, The Bum-Clocks and More From Jim have all been added to the Scooter Tent line up and are guaranteed to add to the mayhem.

Goldblade, Anti Product and local act More From Jim are no strangers to the festival having all performed previously and we look forward to welcoming them back.

Scottish actor Tam Dean Burn fronts The Bum-Clocks who bridge the gap between Rabbie Burns and Punk.

No.1 Station are the vanguards of a new generation of Blue Beat - the generic name given to Jamaican music in Britain in the 1960's. Playing authentic Ska, Rocksteady, and Reggae in the way it was originally intended.

Sharks hail from Leamington Spa and cite The Clash, The Smiths, Crass, Buzzcocks, Joy Division and The Specials amongst their influences.

Yoga at the Wickerman Festival (April 2nd)

Plaid pop pickers are a nod to Scotland’s year of homecoming whilst the combat rockers will feel right at home in the new military themed Bass Camp Dance Village.

Roll on July and the sight of our very own Tartan Army whooping it up at the Wickerman.

In addition The Box will bring a DJ to keep the entertainment going in Solus into the early hours of Saturday morning.

A series of Showcase events will be held at The Box during April so keep your eyes peeled here or on their website for more information.

www.box-glasgow.co.uk / www.myspace.com/boxglasgow

The Human League & The Zutons to Headline (March 6th)

The Human League and The Zutons will top the billing at this year's Wickerman.

Sheffield synth-pop pioneers The Human League are best known for their multi-million selling singles ‘Don’t You Want Me’, ‘Love Action’, ‘Mirror Man’ and ‘(Keep Feeling) Fascination’. The Electro legends will headline Friday 24th July.

Taking centre stage on the Saturday night are Indie rockers The Zutons. The Mercury Prize and Brit Award nominees are recognised as “Liverpool’s first great band of the 21st Century”.

In addition to the headline acts the Wicker audience can look forward to an extremely eclectic billing.

This includes an exclusive Scottish festival performance from folk maverick Billy Bragg, a techno reggae set by festival favourites Dreadzone and old skool ska and punk from the UK Subs, Penetration and Debutant Disco.

Also appearing in this first announcement from the festival team are Jamaican reggae Grammy Award winners Zion Train.

Making a welcome return to the festival and the Summerisle Stage are Dumfries & Galloway's very own bag rockers The Dangleberries.

Other attractions planned for the 2009 shindig are comedy from Phil Kay, a 24 hour Burnsathon, festival golf, mountain biking, kilts and camouflage fancy dress theme and the ceremonial torching of a giant Wickerman.

No ID, No Sale! - Proof Of Age Required (February 23rd)

If you are planning to attend the festival this summer and you look under the age of 21 then you will be required to present proof of age at the point of entry at the festival, the ticket exchange, the bars and cigarette kiosks.

If you are entering the festival with a child ticket or one of our new concession tickets you will most definitely require ID as we need to be sure you are eligible for either concession. If you cannot provide the requested ID then you will be charged for a full price adult ticket.

If you are 18 or over but look more youthful than your years you too will need to provide ID if you intend to buy alcohol or cigarette products. As the title suggests No ID, No Sale!

Passports and Photocard Driving Licences are acceptable forms of ID* but if you don't want to bring these to the event you can take advantage of our new found association with CitizenCard and grab an approved CitizenCard for £6 which is half the price normally charged. The great thing is that these cards are accepted at other events and in many, many retail shops and pubs and they never expire unless you choose to opt out of the scheme. To buy your discounted CitizenCard follow this link: http://www.citizencard.com/wickerman.php

*We will also accept the new Young Scot cards which feature a photograph and date of birth.

2009 Festival Slots (February 16th)

We are no longer accepting submissions for the 2009 Festival.

Thank you to all who applied and apologies again that we cannot reply to every email and letter we receive or return any material.

Wickerman Teams Up With Oxjam (December 10th)

Oxjam is a musical festival with a difference: it encourages people within the community to organise a music based event with the message that fundraising is all about having fun and doing something that many people enjoy. It is inclusive of people of all backgrounds and skill levels, from event organisers, to bands and people who just want to help out. The North West even has a specialist Oxjam team who will support people who have an idea for an event and help them turn it into a reality. This year The Wickerman Festival, Scotland’s biggest independent festival are offering one lucky band who performs at a North West Oxjam event the chance to open the main stage of the festival on Saturday 25th July. The band will take their place alongside some big names in music.

To enter, the band needs to perform at an event in January, February or March, and register their details on the main Oxjam website (www.oxfam.org.uk/oxjam). The North West encompasses Lancashire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man.

Joanne St.Clair, NW Manager says, "Events can be organised by anybody and everybody. They can be something as simple as a sponsored marathon bedroom DJ session, or a one day event which showcases many local bands. It is entirely up to the event organiser. No specialist skills are needed. We can advise and offer training sessions if needed. The main ingredients are imagination and enthusiasm"

Tickets on Sale Now

The much anticipated 2009 Wickerman tickets are on sale now.  The first 500 Wickerunians to purchase tickets online will be automatically upgraded to VIP status.  Whilst we all know that VIP elevates people the level of festival deity it also gives the VIP access to showers, flushing toilets and the VIP bar.

Full Price Weekend tickets for 2009 will cost a modest £80 which includes

A) Booking Fee

B) Car parking and camping*

C) Children 12 and under admitted free with accompanying adult

This represents excellent value for a mud free well serviced site with an anticipated 150 acts over the weekend.

It also recognises that 2009 is not the year to go crazy with increased ticket prices due to the reckless behaviour of city based spivs and speculators.

*Please note that free camping and parking does not apply to those who give their caravans and other assorted "sleeper vehicles" their annual airing at the Wickerman Festival a separate charge still applies to the "caravan field".

Half Price Kids

In recognition of our loyal family audience kids aged 13 - 15 will be able to attend Wickerman 2009 for £40 for a full weekend, this is a half price offer.  This offer is only available online and a valid proof of age will be needed on the gate.

Everyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and bring proof of age - anyone without proof of ID will be liable to pay the full adult ticket price at the gate. Anyone who looks under 21 should bring ID with them too.

The ages shown on the tickets refer to the age of the child/concession on the day of the festival (not the age at time of purchase).

The 3 forms of photographic ID which will be accepted are: CitizenCard, Passport or Photo Driving License. These are the only official proof of age documents that we will accept. We have teamed up with the CitizenCard to offer half price cards to Wickerman ticket holders. At £6 these cards don't have an expiry so can be used each year (and for other events). http://www.citizencard.com/wickerman.php
